Decking Bury, Bolton and Manchester
Pride home services are experts within the timber and composite decking world. Unlike the composite counterpart, softwood and hardwood decking cannot be sold as supply only. Each project will require inspection before a quotation can be given.
Softwood Timber Decking
Treated softwood decking is probably the most common type of decking used in our builds. The wood used is a softwood sourced from the European pine. This type of decking is the most cost effective of all the ranges, as this type of timber is widely grown and harvested quite commonly across Europe.
Please note: Being classed as a softwood is by no means a negative. Softwood trees produce timber that is versatile, strong, reliable and is extremely easy to treat. All timber is fully treated against rot and decay.
Hardwood Timber Decking
Hardwood decking is where the timber is sourced from trees that are classed as hard woods. The range of timbers are vast and are available in a variety of colours, from dark browns to light yellows ensuring that all decking will fit in with a garden setting.
Hardwood timbers are one of the best materials to use as they are incredibly reliable and offer a natural resistence to decay, resulting in a product that will last you for years to come.
A typical hardwood we may use would be Ipé – Tabebuia serratifolia (pronounced “Ee-Pay”)
This timber decking is air dried for additional stability and finished on 4 sides with eased edges. Ipé is a South American hardwood that is one of the hardest woods on earth (3 times harder than oak!).
Ipé wood has a natural, rich, dark brown colour with occasional yellow tints and yellowish-brown sap. Left unstained it will gradually age to a lighter brown with grey overtones. However, Ipé can be stained to retain its rich, dark brown colour or it can be stained to give it a glossier finish.
Due to Ipé’s immense strength and density, in most circumstances it is unnecessary for boards to exceed 21mm thickness for any load bearing purposes. It is ideal for commercial projects where heavy wear is expected or projects near water.
Due to the origin and importing costs, this type of timber is more expensive than your typical softwood, however, should you want something a little more special, it really is worth the extra costs!
